Apis Teicher is a Latinx-Canadian artist and speculative fiction author based in British Columbia. She is the author of The Yappari Chronicles trilogy, the postgender speculative fiction Where Summer Ends, Autumn Begins ( 2024) as well as the children’s book Bellybuttonless. Her non-fiction has appeared in numerous international publications; her art was nominated for a 2014 Aurora Award. Apis is a member of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America, the BC Writers Federation, and the Canadian Science Fiction and Fantasy Association.

A multifaceted artist, Apis has divided her time and attention between her writing and fantasy illustration. She has lived and worked in several countries in Latinamerica, North America, and Asia. Most of her professional work has been in non-fiction with numerous articles, reviews, and interviews across publications in Canada, the US, and Japan including The Pacific Rim Review of Books, the Landmark Report, the J, APEGBC’s Innovation Magazine, Afterword, The/ La Source, The Mie Times and the Yokkaichi International Association.

In 2012 she wrote and illustrated ‘Bellybuttonless’, a children’s book to assist other families undergoing treatment for rare cancers. She provided it as a resource to her surgeons and doctors and it has been given out to several patients since. In addition, she donated the book to the Pseudomyxoma Survivor Charity as a resource for international patients.

Shortly after she shifted focus fully to speculative fiction: she completed her ‘Yappari Chronicles’ trilogy and wrote several short films   ( “Lee’s Choice”, “Always There”, “Book Box”) that went on to be Official Selections of several international film festivals.

Apis’ creative endeavours and spirit have been documented through a series of media appearances throughout the years, including articles about her in Afterword Newspaper  ( 2006) the Jewish Independent ( 2008), a TV interview in Gente Con Estilo ( Colombia, 2006), the   Vancouver Sun  ( 2014). Most recently,  she was featured in a short documentary in the Troublemakers program of the 2023 Vancouver Queer Film Festival.

Her current projects include an epistolary speculative fiction novella, a follow-up series to her trilogy, and a supernatural thriller romance.
